About the Azores

What language is spoken in the Azores?
Portuguese is the official language of the Azores, as the archipelago is part of Portugal. However, there are various accents across the islands, offering a unique and rich linguistic diversity.

What is the climate like in the Azores?
The Azores enjoy a mild climate year-round. Winter temperatures hover around 13°C (56°F), while summer temperatures can reach 24°C (75°F). The sea temperature follows this trend, ranging from 17°C (63°F) in winter to 23°C (74°F) in summer. The humidity is high, which can intensify the perceived temperature, especially during the warmer months. The weather is famous for its unpredictability — in one day, you might experience sun, rain, and wind, which many people consider part of the charm of the Azores.

What food can I expect in the Azores?
Azorean cuisine stands out for its simplicity and the authentic flavours of local ingredients. Fresh fish dishes, such as grilled or stewed fish, are very common, as are well-prepared meats. Seafood is another popular speciality, and the region’s cheeses and traditional bread are a real treat for food lovers.

What about vegetarians or vegans, what can they expect?
The Azores are not traditionally a destination catering to vegetarian or vegan diets. Many typical dishes are based on meat or fish, and not all restaurants offer dedicated options. However, it is always possible to adapt simple dishes, like salads or side dishes, to suit these preferences. We recommend informing us in advance to ensure we can prepare something that meets your dietary needs.
